Changing pattern of antimicrobials resistance of microorganisms isolated from clinical specimens and of antimicrobial use during recent 3 years(1993~1995)

Abstract
We analyzed the antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of microorganisms tested by the disk diffusion method and the trend of antimicrobial use from 1993 to 1995 at Korea University Anam Hospital.
As a results;
1) During 3 years, the most frequently isolated strains of Gram-positive organisms was S. aureus, followed by Strep. group D, S. pneumonia and the most frequently isolated strains of Gram-negative organisms was P. aeruginosa, followed by E. coli, K pneumonia.
2) The use rate of quinolones, penicillins and tetracyclins of oral antimicrobials growed less and less
3) The use rate of parenteral antimicrobials remained unchanged.
4) MRSA(methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus) gradually increased every year.
5) P. aeruginosa was less susceptible to all tested antibiotics except imipenem and ceftazidime.
6) The sensitivity of E. coli to cefotaxime was 96.6%, 99% to ceftizoxime, 95% to cefotetan.
7. Strep. group D was high susceptible to teicoplanin and vancomyin.
